Ive been at many a game where 60.000 or at old C.P. 84.000 singing ynwa, the celtic song, we shall not be moved, F.O.A etc. lifted the stadium and drove the team on to victory but i dont remember a chant of ira, ira, ira having a similar response.
These people dont go about their daily life or workplace chanting ira, its only when they turn up at a celtic game it seems to be of importance to them.
Also to respond to the other poster( Seanog? I think it was) my grandfather was born in donegal, so im third generation myself, i fully understand all the history about ireland and celtics connections but it still does not answer why in the year 2011 people want to chant ira when watching celtic, i want the history kept alive and dont care how many irish rebel songs are sung but direct chants of support to the ira are wrong imo.
Cut out the ira chanting and it will be much harder for anyone to find justified fault with any of the other songs we sing.
