Celts to wear yellow armbands for Madeleine
CELTIC football club players will wear yellow armbands at their match this weekend to mark missing British girl Madeleine McCann's fourth birthday.
The team was approached by Maddie's auntie, Philomena McCann, yesterday with the idea and senior executives today met and gave the plan the green light.
Madeleine was snatched from her apartment at the Ocean Club holiday complex in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz on Thursday night.
A massive search is underway throughout Portugal to find her while devastated parents Kate and Gerry keep a vigil at the resort.
The bhoys are due to face Aberdeen at home on Saturday and all players will run out wearing the yellow ribbons.
A spokesman for Celtic last night said: "We were approached to wear the yellow armbands, and naturally we were very happy to agree to this. Hopefully, this will keep the focus on the search for Madeleine.
"Clearly, the thoughts of everyone at the Club are with Madeleine and her family at this extremely difficult time and of course, we are pleased to be able to offer any kind of help or comfort which we possibly can".
Philomena McCann thanked Celtic for their support at this difficult time. She said: "I am working hard and this stops me from becoming too emotional, thank god as the weeping wears you out. Gerry and Kate are trying to stay normal for the twins but it is really hard sometimes."
The club, where Maddie's dad Gerry worked before the family moved to England, have also added an appeal for information on Madeleine's whereabouts to their website.
