True, bit under strachan we were so slow at getting up the park we still had some players available to help defensively but under Mowbray its sometimes like watching the schoolkids in the playground ( not that I would do that) where they all chase the ball all over the park.
When they were up they were up and when they were down they were down and half the time they are neither up or down.

We grew up around the same era when football was 2-3-5 then the Italians brought in this 4-4-2 and bored us all to tears even though it was successful, but it was designed to be a defensive formation.
Most of this year I have watched our full backs attacking up both wings only to pass the ball to Samaras or Fortune who where further up the wing, makes no fukcing sense.
Also when was the last time our mid-field scored less goals than our current.
Tam, theres no doubt our current midfield are some of the worst strikers of a ball we have ever witnessed.
BUT on the 442 and 235 thing, i think the difference was formations were never really spoken about until the Italians offered up there defensive football then commentators started talking about how they and opposing teams set themselves up.
To be fair the lions played a mix of 4-4-2 and 4-2-4
Big Billy always played centre back with luggy clark sweeper with the two full back of Craig and Gemmell.
Clark mopped up anything ceaser missed and was the sweeper, so must have been behind the full backs, giving us a back four.
in the central midfield positions we had Bertie and the sweetest striker of a ball I have ever seen in a celtic strip Bobby Murdoch, and they had their two wide men who worked the flanks from edge of box to edge of box and they were Jinky and Buzz bomb bobby lennox, giving us a midfield 4
And up top, Wispie wallace and Stevie Chalmers , both capable of dropping deep or stretching a defense wide, ( they call that running into the channels nowadays, and think its a new thing)
We had a natural attacking 4-4-2 which could easily adapt to 4-3-3,, 4-5-1,, 4-2-4 without us, the fans ever once thinking what formation we were playing.

And that was my point, with 2 half backs and 2 inside forwards it was easy to adjust.
I have said for yrs that I wished someone would try it, it's not rocket science that your half backs can become attacker's and your inside forwards can step back to cover and make room.
But today its I'm a defensive mid fielder no I'm an offensive mid fielder I cannae be daen both.
2-3-5 it worked for nearly 100 yrs.
Havin watched WGs side their limitations were continually exposed ...ffs he trusted Caldwell in Midfield before he would play any of his signings
TM was at least honest enough with us about the squads ability to play the way he thinks we should.
Wgs side failed to put to bed vitually the same Rankers team that won the title 9 moths ago...when we played three 0-0 draws needing a single goal to take the title and couldn't manage it...we couldn't adapt ..even when Hibs insisted on continualy kickin the ball back to us...You couldn't make it up
I can't smoke cos I'm inside..but it's still raining..and I get a free paper towel to dry my £500 quid seat...lucky me.
