A senior Scottish football figure has told BBC Scotland that the current 12-club set-up could be replaced.

The new format would see all clubs play each other twice and split after 26 games into a top six and bottom eight.

After the split, clubs in the top six and the bottom eight would then play each other twice.

Sounds good until playing each other twice after the split

An even bigger SPL, featuring a 16 or 18-club top league, along with a second division for the SPL, is also under discussion.

This has to be a plan, even if its for 5 or 6 years down the road it should be getting worked on

Agree with you about the splitting up and playing everyone else twice.

I still can't see how this is going to generate crowds or indeed for that matter sufficient revenue. As for the split, i'd get rid of it altogether.

Cant see how its going to improve things. The game needs a cash injection and Sky just aren't interested. Combined with the the current financial state of the country punters just wont turn up especially to see average players
