It occured to me whilst watching the 9-0 thrashing/humiliation/pumping/thumping (delete as apprropriate) of Aberdeen at the weekend that this Celtic team is a young side.

I had a look at the average age of the 11 men on the starting sheet and I was surprised to see that the average age of our bhoys (aptly named) is 24.27. Majostorovic and Cha Du-Ri bring the average up a notch or two but it's quite funny to see that our oldest player on the park is a great whopping 33 years old (Dan Majstorovic step forward) and behind him is Cha who is 30. The youngest player on the park (albeit wasn't on for the whole match) was young Thomas Rogne (20). Compared with Rangers' starting 11 at the weekend against St. Mirren, their average player age is 27.9 with Vladimir Weiss (20) bringing down their average considerably, and he's not even their player!


Now, let's consider the future.

Over the next couple of seasons these players will further adapt to the SPL, (remember it's only the first season for some of these players) and improve and develop their skills. Some....will excell and heads will take notice of these players and the fat cats of the richer leagues (not hard to be richer than the SPL but there you go) may come scratching at our door with the transfer money hopefully being invested back into our club. The players who remain or we can resist temptation of selling have years ahead of them because of their young age and will play as a unit with a bond between them, unlike Rangers' already ageing team; Weir, Miller, McCulloch, Papac all in their 30's with the exception of old timer Davie "The Strangler" Weir (40). Maybe i'm getting too ahead of myself in a couple of sentences, but what the hell, i'm optimisic.

One can only see our club is indeed in a great position, here's to the future of Celtic.
