Celtics lackluster opener last week against St. Mirren proved to be the standard again at Tannadice as Celtic were held to a 1-1 draw with Dundee Utd. The return of Nakamura should have been the creative flair to spark Celtic into action but sadly there was only a slight improvement from their league day opener.
A Paul Hartley deflected shot seeing the hoops take the lead after some great play by Mark Wilson and Naka. United leveled when substitute Sandaza got in amongst the defence for a slight flick past Boruc.
Celtic created more goal scoring chances than they did last week but they also let Utd. in to have more shots on target than the league champions could muster up. Too many of the Celtic players look a shadow of themselves from last season, mainly Scott McDonald. Skippy’s first touch seems to have deserted him, he doesn’t look as sharp around the box and looks about a yard short of pace. He could have got Celtic a winner with only minutes left of the game but failed to even hit the target from a few yards out.
Everyone assumed (myself included) that the introduction of Loovens to the squad would have of had Caldwell and McManus playing out of their skin when in truth they looked more nervous defending then they have done in a long time.
Mark Wilson came in for Naylor and his performance was the most positive thing that Celtic could take out of the game, He worked tirelessly getting up and down the flank, attacking, defending, he linked up well with McGeady and even managed to put in a few crosses himself, one which eventually lead to the Hartley goal.
It’s 180 minutes of football into the new season and Celtic look stuck in first gear. Throughout the last two games you have been left believing that it’s a matter of time before it’s moved up a gear but sadly it has failed to happen. The question now is will Strachan make the changes for this to happen? His post match interview doesn’t suggest so.
No doubt now that the last couple of weeks for transfer gossip will go into overdrive. Herman Crespo is the latest name to be thrown into the pot but giving Gordon Strachan’s concerns about players expected wages surely a 33 year old Crespo looking for his final pay day will be a couple of grand too much?
Celtics next opposition is Falkirk at Celtic Park, if there are more gears in this Celtic team they better be found next weekend as Rangers travel to paradise the following week.
i'm more bothered about us an attacking force.mcgeady was woeful again yesterday.mcdonald and JVOH just doesn't work.they both offer very little.we need an injection of pace up front.cant believe how boring we are to watch aswell.strachan can waffle all he wants.he is not kidding anybody..apart from a few on here...you know who you are.lol
