Maloney returns.... Whatever next?

I like many other fans are bemused by the return of shaun maloney to Glasgow.

Is it because he turned his back on the club who had stood by him through injury plagued years?

Is it because he thought the grass was greener elsewhere?

Is it because he thought that he was better than he is?

The answer to all the above questions is of course a resounding NO.

The main reason for the bemusement is the fact that we appear to have paid, or will pay, more than twice what we sold him for.

Bear in mind that when he left he was playing excellent football and playing regularly, so we let him go for a million.

Now of course he hasnt been getting a game which by any other teams reckoning should mean he would be cheaper as he obviously hasnt displayed the same kind of form that persuaded MON to steal him from us. But hey its MON, so that makes it alright.

I do not and never will understand how a club who constantly whinge on about finances and how we cant compete with the EPL can then go and sign a player they sold, whilst on top form, for double that when he hasnt kicked a ball for months.

Good business that one.

Wonder if he is on a better contract than the one he turned down? Wouldnt surprise me.

Leaves me wondering what will happen next.

Virgo for £5 Million anyone??

Fair enough he left us and showed no loyalty because he thought the grass was greener. But at least he showed some balls to own up and say it isn't greener on the other side, unlike a few other players i'm thinking of *cough* petrov *cough*

I look forward to him apologizing by winning player of the year again.

I think he should apologise to the club and the fans. I think he owes us an apology for the way he acted and i know it would make me feel a bit better towards him because at the minute i dont believe he should be at CP.

you are a baloon

the reason he left for a million was because his contract was due to expire in - not 3, not 2, not even 1 year, but in six months. had he had longer on his contract we could have commanded a much higher fee, thats how football works or do you not understand that?

It's simply the way business is between the SPL and the EPL. They don't need to sell players because they have money. It is a simple case of "what the market will bear". Like you and most others, I liked Maloney when he was here before. However, also like you and most others, feel he has some grovelling to do to win back the fans. Buying players is about improving the squad you have. We just did that today. We did it regardless of whether or not we paid more than we should have. We still need a solid left back and a solid back-up goalie. Brown isn't that guy. I have faith in this management team. They have done outstandingly well on the shoestring budget they operate under compared to thne ridiculous amount O'Neil had at his disposal. Credit where credit is due. Strachan and Lawwell have brought pride back to Celtic. Long may it continue.

Love Him !!!!

Relax Guys, He Gave Us SEVEN long Years, before getting the 7 Year itch, that both Henrik & Petrov got also ....

After 7 Years if You get the chance to try the Premiership it's Worth a sniff, but "I" Knew that it wouldn't turn out for Him the way He imagined .... Barry ferguson found that out also ....

Glasgow is a Goldfish bowl & it can Make players Want to get out of it .... McFadden commented on that just 2 Days ago ....

Wee Sean can UNLOCK a flat back four with a quick 1-2, better than ANYONE I've Ever seen in the game .... He can score goals, with a ratio of more than 1 goal for every 4 games He plays in, He can score from free kicks for Fun & also did so at Villa .... He is nippy & runs across defenders leaving Them bewildered & unsure about Who should pick Him up, He puts through Really good balls for strikers ....

Just like Aiden last Year wee Sean almost single-handedly won Us the league the last time He played for Us, whilst picking up 2 Awards for being player of the Year, if He does HALF of that again We're onto a winner at Any price ....

I always liked Him & I DO feel that He "should" have Shown the Club more Loyalty after They nursed Him back to Health so often .... It was a poor way to repay Gordon since, AS SOON AS Sean got Better Gordon put Him Straight back into the 1st team, instead of sending Him to the reserves to wallow for a while ....

But this wasn't like the Liam Miller saga, a Guy Who buggered off after a "brief" spell (& paid the price) as Sean gave Us "7 Years" & NOW He's signed on for at least another 4, making Him 1 of the longest Serving Celts in Our Fantastic History !!!!

"We" messed Him about as regards His wages & being at an impressionable age His new agent lured Him to follow O'Neill, Whom We ALL Said at the time, "WON'T PLAY YOU Sean," as Martin RARELY played Sean when He was in charge up Here, no matter how many of Us were Baying for Him to enter the Arena .... Converesely wee Gordon relied Heavily on Him at times & Successfuly so !!!!

I'm CERTAIN that He will be a rip-roaring success AGAIN & the PERFECT cover for McGeady & Nakamura should anything happen to Them or if They lose form or if We need a Quick change of formation, ie 4-3-1-2 .... He can play brilliantly & menacingly in that hole behind strikers or BE a striker Himself, confusing defenders even more ....

I'll never forget The direct free kick, due to a Craigan pass back, which He scored from against Motherwell which I believe ended up winning Us that Cup .... It exacted a small revenge on a Scott McDonald led Motherwell for the torturous last game of the previous season, which We lost in no small part to a Kyriagkos penalty that NEVER was, due to a linesman Who can often be seen wearing an apron with 1 trouser leg rolled up, with a goats skull in 1 pocket & dead pigeon in the other ....

Who could forget Maloney's SCREAMER from 40 yards out against Klos .... Or the WONDER Goal He scored against Dunfermline, I've never Seen a bicycle kick that High off the ground before or since .... The Free Kicks He scored were exceptional too !!!!

He sets up Memorable goals, including 1 for Scotland in the dying minutes not too long ago ....

We've NOT played AS WELL "without" Him & since He left We've not been beating teams as Comfortably as We have done When He was in the mix .... Except for a few games when Massimo was on top form for Us, which We won comfortably .... But there's been Very few High scoring Games since Sean left & the goal tally We accumulated against Dunfermline looks almost impossible to repeat Without Sean in the side, even Neil Lennon scores when Sean's around !!!! .... It will be Great for Those 2 to get back together Again ....

You don't Stop being a Good footballer overnight & He may struggle to get fit, but I believe this is another Excellent signing for Celtic, along with the extension of McGeady, Boruc & wee Scott's contracts ....

I can hardly wait to see Sean "Scampering" around again, He always reminded Me of My Nephews when They were Toddlers, with wee impossibly fast legs which You had to Keep Your nuts out of reach from when holding Them up as They'd go like the clappers even in mid-air ....

Sean will feel Right at Home & gives Us options that We've been Sorely lacking for all to See SINCE He left !!!! .... He'll NOW Gives Us His All Again, Just like He used to ....

Here's to FOUR IN A ROW !!!!

HAIL HAIL !!!!
CHAMPIONEES CHAMPIONEES !!!!
CHAMPIONEES CHAMPIONEES !!!!
CHAMPIONEES CHAMPIONEES !!!!
CHAMPIONEES CHAMPIONEES !!!!

I seriously doubt that mate.

Anyhoo, people should look at the fee paid for Maloney and ask if its value for money and forget what he was sold to them for.

Is he worth £2.5M? He is if he plays up to his previous form, but that remains to be seen.

We are desperate for a bit of invention and perhaps he can provide that, but ive got mixed feelings seeing him return.
