Still no white smoke, still no indication of who our next manager will be but as this shambolic season draws to a close we can be comforted by the fact that we restored some pride. Well I say “we” but in reality it has been Neil Lennon who has got more from these players who throughout the season came up wanting.
No matter what Dermot Desmond and the board say, they were looking at the old firm during the week as the defining moment of Lennon’s short reign and he came up trumps. They are going to find out nothing from the game against Hearts this afternoon that they didn’t already know. So does their hesitance speak volumes in itself? Is it a case of no news is very bad news for Lenny? It could very well be.
Neil Lennon again when asked the question about his position still gave the same answer he has since the first day he took over. He doesn’t know if he will be here next season but what were interesting were his comments, on which I agree with 100 percent.
Lennon said "I will speak with Dermot again on Sunday evening or Monday - even then I'm not sure if he'll tell me or not.
"I know they haven't spoken with anyone else. Dermot has been known to pull rabbits out of hats and could do it again.
"If it was someone of the ilk of Roy Hodgson or Davie Moyes I could understand it. But if it was someone way down the pecking order I'd have a huge problem with that."
Don’t under estimate how much Lennon wants this job but nonetheless is ready to step aside if DD were to somehow in Lenny’s words “Pull a rabbit from the hat” and land a manager whose record speaks for itself. If we believe though all the speculation and the men being linked with the job i.e. Alan Pardew, Alan Curbishly and Billy Davies then I am sure the majority if not all of the Celtic fans would want to see Neil Lennon in the dugout.
What is pretty certain though is that by this time next week if not sooner we should know who has been entrusted with taking this club forward.
