GEORGIOS SAMARAS still has his part to play in this title race, maybe not the starring role but he would be up for best supporting player if football had their own version of the Oscars. He has been instrumental in the last couple of Old Firm games, causing Rangers all sorts of problems and justifying Celtic's decision not to sell him in the January window. Although a quick sale would have boosted the clubs coffers, the pursuit of silverware has been given the bigger boost.
This throws up another question, one that splits Celtic fans right down the middle. Should the Greek Striker be offered a new contract by Celtic?
While I haven't always been the strikers biggest fan I think Celtic should move to tie him down on a longer deal. That being said Sammy has just turned 26 and will be looking for a lucrative deal for the next 3 years or so. Are we willing to pay top notch wages for a player who will spend a lot of his time on the bench?
If the big mans demands are reasonable then it is a no brainer for the club but if he wants the kind of wages that would see him alongside the top earners at the club then I think Celtic may let him go this summer.
If he does go this summer then he should leave with the Celtic fans best wishes and hopefully a few winners medals.
